RE: toilet water seeping into black tank

I let it slam shut shut instead of easing it closed. Works.

RE: A brighter side to rising fuel prices!

I just invested a bunch of money in unleaded gasoline futures. With summer coming up and self-fulfilling prophesies from the oil companies of $7.00 a gallon fuel prices, it looks like a good move.
If it doesn't work out, I'll have to spend the last of my money to drive to LA and strangle my broker........

RE: Algonac State Park in Michigan

The Wagon Wheel portion of the park still has plenty of trees, but if you go back there you miss the charm of watching the freighters pass silently by on the St. Clair River, unless, of course, there is some fog.
I don’t think I would let that keep me from enjoying one of the most charming State Parks in the entire State!

RE: Do you carry personal defense aboard??

To those who say “you have to be qualified”.....check my profile.
To those who choose some other way to defend yourselves.....whatever you want to do is fine with me; I could care less. If you ever need a weapon, that’s your problem.
I carry a .45acp, a .357magnum, or a .380/Kurz 9mm depending on circumstances, and I carry them concealed and it is no one’s business but my own. You would rub elbows with me and think I am an amiable grandfather and never know the difference. So what is all the excitement about?
It is a personal choice.

RE: Do you carry personal defense aboard??

ROTFL, after reading this statement, "Anyone who chooses NOT to carry a weapon to defend themselves is.......well, defenseless. And as we well know, criminals do prefer unarmed victims". This is about as an erroneous statement as I've ever heard about firearms. A person does not need a firearm to defend themselves nor are they defenseless because they do not carry a firearm. There are many choices that do not involve a firearm.
Never bring a knife to a gun fight. But, whatever turns your crank.

It is a personal choice: you can present yourself as an unarmed victim or you can take steps to defend yourself in the case of an emergency, whatever turns your crank. Me? I speak softly and carry a .45.

RE: trip to Michigan this summer

Years ago in our tent camping days, we stayed in the Ludington State Park and we had a site right on Lake Michigan.
Another good one is Young State Park in Boyne City on Lake Charlevoix. .

RE: Texas DOT Stopping 1 Ton Trucks & RVs

I was a professional driver for 30 years, and while I didn’t drive long haul very much, I did make a half dozen trips in and out of Texas, plus I just recently returned from Mission, Texas 3 weeks ago. In the times I have been there, I have yet to see a scale house open. They may open them somewhere sometime, but in all the miles I’ve done there, I’ve never crossed a scale.
I find it hard to believe they are pulling tourists over and weighing their wagons when they seem to have no interest in weighing commercial wagons.
It is my opinion that if this is true whatever revenue they generate in fines will be greatly offset by lost tourist dollars when the word spreads that Texas is harassing tourists.

RE: "Struggling" with the hills...

I gotta jump in here.
A 7% grade is an EXTREMELY steep climb….!!
Interstates:
The standards for the Interstate Highways were highly regulated - lanes were required to be twelve feet wide, shoulders were ten feet wide, a minimum of fourteen feet of clearance under each bridge was required, grades had to be less than 3%, and the highway had to be designed for travel at 70 miles per hour.
Info Here
I don’t remember all the details, but the 3% requirement was bypassed/waved for some places but still weren’t to exceed 5%. I think this was also waved in a few spots.
There are a few 7% grades, but not many.

RE: Hot water anode info

I second the above.
Last time I put the anode in I couldn't find the Teflon tape, so I used petroleum jelly on the threads. All the tape does is lubricate the threads so it will tighten farther, and the jelly did the same thing. No leaks.

RE: Well..got nailed for not having the non-com Class A DL

This raises a couple of questions:
When you visit CA from out of state pulling a large RV and you live in a state that doesn’t have an equivalent endorsement, are you entering illegally?
When you enter CA pulling a large RV and you don’t have an endorsement, will they turn you away at the agriculture inspection stations?

RE: opinions on which truck to buy, dodge 1500 or chevy 1500

This is a classic example of misinformation being posted by a well meaning member who just simply failed to do any research. Allow me to point out the fallacy.
......the Dodge is an 08.
And even if it weren't, the fit and finish are not as good a quality.

RE: opinions on which truck to buy, dodge 1500 or chevy 1500

My son had a ’05 Chevy 5.3 extended cab and loved it; all sorts of power, a cat-back exhaust, and 21-mpg highway. Some dipstick made a left turn into his path and it was totaled.
He leased a Dodge 4-door from a neighbor-salesman that has a smaller V8 and absolutely hates it. The comparison is not totally equal, but handling, comfort, fuel mpg at a paltry best of 16 mpg, no power, and even the fit & finish are nowhere the quality of the Chevy.
He curses the kid that turned in front of him every time he drives the Dodge.

RE: Rest Areas Versus Walmart?

I too am an old trucker, and have a little experience in this area. I pretty much figure any port in a storm.
First and foremost: never park next to a bull wagon! (Livestock hauler)
Reefers (refrigerated trailers) are to be avoided; they turn on and off all night.
Don’t put any more slide-outs out than you have too. I don’t trust sleepy truckers.
Get a sticker found at truck stops that says “No Lot Lizards” and put it on your door.
Keep the caliber of your choice handy just in case.

RE: 1500HD vs. 2500HD

I have a couple of simple points to make: (I feel brave today!)
1. It never hurts anything to have more truck than you need.
2. Count the lugs: 6 = ½ and 8 = ¾
